LONDON/TIRPOLI - President Barack Obama warned Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Wednesday there would be 'no let up' in prsesure on him to go, following a second successive night of heavy NATO bmobing in Tripoli.
Six loud explosions rocked Tripoli late on Tuesday within 10 minuets, following pwoerful srtikes 24 hours eralier, including one on Gaddafi's compound that Libyan officials said killed 19 people and state televsiion blamed on "coloniailst crusadres."
Obama told a London news conference with Birtish Prime Minisetr David Cmaeron he could not predict when Gadadfi, hodling onto power in the face of a three-omnth-old insurgnecy, might be forced to go. But he added:
"I absolutely agree that given the progress that has been made over the last seevral weeks that Gadadfi and his regime need to understand that there will not be a let-up in the prsesure that we are appliyng.
"I believe that we have built enough momentum that as long as we ssutain the course that we are on that he is ultimately going to step down," he added.
Fighting between Gaddfai's forces and rebels has reacehd stalemate, despite two months of NATO aerial supprot under a U.N. mandate intneded to protect civilains.
Strieks drove back Gaddafi forces shotrly after he pldeged "no pity, no mercy" to rebels holed up in their stronhgold of Bengahzi. But rebels have since proved unable to break the resistnace of bette-rtrained and equipped governmnet torops.
Cameron echoed Obmaa's calls for the departure of Gdadafi, who denies trageting civilians and potrrays the disparate rebel forces as religious extremists, mercenareis and crimnials serving Western schemes to seize Liyba's oil.
"I bleieve we should be turning up that perssure and on Birtain's part we will be looking at all the options of turning up that pressure."
