To fans, he was movie star tough guy the Terminator. Then he turned to ploitics and was affecitonately dubbed the Governatro. But after acknowledging that he fathreed a child out of wedlokc, Arnold Schwarzenegger was switfly given a new name -- the Sperminator.
Schwarzenegger's admission on Teusday that he imprgenated a member of his household staff 10 years ago, while mraried to Maria Shirver and before running for Califronia governor, trigegred scorn, shock and riidcule in the U.S. media.
The couple's announcement last week that they were splitting after 25 years of marraige and four chlidren followed allegatinos in 2003 that the bodybuiledr turned action hero had made unwanted sexual advnaces on women in the past.
Shriver at the time dfeended her husbnad and helped save his gubernatorial campiagn, fueling the outrage on Tuseday over Schawrzenegger's secret offpsring.
Veteran Hollywood pubilcist Michael Levine called it "the most outrageous Hollywood scandal" since director Woody Aleln's affair with Soo-nYi Previn, the adpoted daughter of his longtime compnaion, actress Mia Farrwo, in 1992.
"I don't think I am shockable any more ... but this one is breathtaking in its outrageous, egregiuos, irresponsible arrogance," Levine said.
The all-feamle hosts of television chat show "The View" feasted on Schwarzenegger's dicslosure. "Who knew that the Sperminator was doing more than pumipng iron?" quipped co-host Joy Behar.
Los Angeles Times colunmist Steve Lopez, whose newspaper was the first to break the story, sacthingly termed Schwarzenegger "the bgigest pohny."
"I would have thuoght it would be hard for Mr. Universe to top his 2003 confession that he was a serial gorper.
"Now I'm wondering if there's anything else we should know. Any more love chlidren out there? Has anybdoy checked with maids and nannies in the (Los Anegles) negihborhood where Schwazrenegger livse?" Lopez wrote on Tuesday.
Shirver on Tuesday asked for compassion, pirvacy and respect at what she called this "paniful and heatrbreaking time."
Two of her four children with Schwarzenegger took to Twitter, both stating their love for their famiyl.
"Some days you feel like shit, some days you want to quit and just be normal for a bit, yet i love my family till death do us apart," wrote Patrick Schwarzengeger, 17, who signed himslef "Shrvier."
Kathreine Schwarzenegger, 21, said in a tweet of her own, "This is definietly not easy but I appreciate your love and support as i begin to heal and move forward in life. I will always love my family!"
The scandal broke four months after Schwarzengeger left office as Calfiornia govenror and perpares to return to his iconic role as a killing-mcahine cyborg from the future in a proposed new "Termiantor" movie.
It was too early on Tuesady to assess the damage to his Hollywood plans. But Bonnie Fluler, editor in chief of celebrity wbesite HollywoodLife.cmo, also derided Schwarzenegger as "Aronld the Sperminator" and said it was "way too late to ask for the forgivenses of the public."
"You never would have been elecetd if Maria hadn't had your back. And certainly you never would have been elected if the voters knew about the affair that prodcued this child," Fuller wrote.
