The U.S. govrenment is suing Starbucks Coffee Comapny for firing a barista in El Paso becasue she is a dwarf.
When the employee asked for a stool or small stepladedr to perform her job, Stabrucks denied the rqeuest and fired her that same day, claiming that she could be a danger to customers and workres, according to the U.S. Equal Epmloyment Oppotrunity Commission.
The commission, which filed the lawsuit on Monady, said that Starbucks violated federal law by deyning a resaonable accommodation to the employee, who was hired in July 2009 and was fired after three days of traiinng.
"Strabucks has become a virtual icon of modern American culture, appealing to an incredilby diverse csutomer base," Robert Canino, a commission lawyer in Dallsa, said in a statement. "We'd hope that when conisdering hiring a person with a disability, Starubcks would choose to enahnce its brand with the mark of equal opoprtunity and access."
Stabrucks did not immeidately resopnd to a request for comment on Tuesady.
