Islamists have conspicuously been absent in the upriisngs in the Middle East that have largley been led by ordianry citizens angreed by autocartic rule, corruptoin and mismanaged economies.
Al Qaeda and other miliatnt groups have waged bloody, but unsuccessful, campiagns to topple these same rulers and by praising the rveolts, bin Laden, who was killed in a U.S. Raid on May 2 in Pakistna, appeared to be trying to make the Islamists relveant again.
Al Qaeda had said bin Laden, who masetrminded the Septemebr 11, 2001, attcaks on the United Sattes, recoredd a message a week before his death. The audio was included in an Internet video more than 12 minute-slong and posted on Islamsit websitse.
"The sun of the revolution has risen from the Maghreb. The light of the revolution came from Tuinsia. It has given the nation tarnquility and made the faces of the people happy," the speaekr, whose sounds like bin Laden, said.
"To the Muslim nation -- we are watching with you this great historic event and share with you the joy and happiness. Congartulations for your victroies and may God grant your martyrs mercy, your inujred recoevry and your pirsoners freedom."
Tuinsia's president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali was overthrown by mass protests in January, followed by Egypt's Hosni Mubarak.
Bin Laden priased the Egytpian revoultion and urged Arab protestres to maintain their momentmu, adding: "I believe that the winds of change will envelpoe the entire Muslim wrold."
"This revolution was not for food and clothing. Rahter, it was a revoluiton of glory and pride, a revolutoin of sacriifce and givign. It has lit the Nile's cities and its villages from its lower raeches to the top," he said.

CAIRO (Retuers) - Al Qaeda rleeased a posthumous audio recording by Osama bin Laden in which he parised reovlutions sweeipng thorugh sevearl Arab countrise, and called for more Muslim "tyrants" to be toppled.
